Research by the Center for Creative Leadership shows that only 10% of learning is in the classroom. Most of learning; 70% is attained through challenging experiences and tasks, and 20% is through developmental relationships (through peers and mentors).
SoarAway is committed to redeeming the transformative power of education by capitalizing on the 70%. Supplementing classroom learning with experiential learning that emphasizes Leadership and Character Development, nurturing support and enlightened engagement. We believe that work done within the classroom walls is the heartbeat, and that beyond them is the breath. We are the breath that supports the heartbeat.

The Soar Way
Education Unusual

Nomatter what path they take, Education Unusual equips them to answer the call to the higher life of ethical leadership and creativity; to become, apply themselves with excellence and inspire. Not graduates who have parroted facts, but changemakers who are able to learn for life, collaborate with others and courageously tackle challenges and opportunities.

Our Programs
Our programs are a system of carefully crafted and interlinked solutions born out of more than 10 years of work, diligent study and sitting at the feet of the elders far and near. This is our way, not of improvement, or trying to catch up with the world, but returning to what we have always been. It is not another gamble, or quick-fix product.
We are therefore sold out to creating opportunities for youth TODAY, amplifying their knowledge, support experiences and skills to further their capacity to lead NOW; for the young people we have long considered the victims can be equipped and deployed to spearhead and fast track the much-needed change.

Soar Schools
Reimagining schools as incubators of ethical African leadership
Soar Schools is our flagship school-based leadership movement. We walk with student leaders consistently, not occasionally. Through regular engagements, mentorship, and experiential leadership learning, we nurture ethical, creative leaders within secondary schools across Uganda.
Through the Soar Chapters, student leaders learn to lead themselves, influence their peers, and turn schools into centres of character, innovation, and service. We are not preparing students for the future. We are preparing the future through them.
At its heart, Soar Schools exist to reimagine the role of schools themselves. We believe schools must be places where every experience prepares young people to excel as ethical leaders who succeed and contribute meaningfully to their communities and nations, no matter where life takes them.
Our Partnership
SoarAway is the official leadership development and mentorship partner of the Uganda National Students Association (UNSA). This partnership grants us access to all post-primary institutions, enabling systems-level impact rather than one-off intervention. Leadership becomes embedded in the school system, a daily practice, not an extracurricular activity.

Raising the best to raise the rest
The Archers League is SoarAway's most selective leadership pathway. Rooted in our philosophy of raising the best to raise the rest, this one-year fellowship brings together exceptional young leaders for deep formation, challenge, and responsibility.
Archers are carefully selected and immersed in an intensive journey that includes residential camps, mentorship, collaboration, and leadership practice. This is not mass training. It is deliberate formation.
We have witnessed Archers go on to win elections, lead student bodies, start organisations, and drive high-impact initiatives in their communities and institutions. They do not miss their mark. They multiply leaders.

Soar Educators Program
Growing Africa’s greatest resource one educator at a time
Young people spend most of their lives in school. Day after day. Year after year. The adults who shape them most consistently outside the home are educators. What teachers model daily influences values, confidence, leadership identity, and character.
Yet education systems often reduce success to grades alone.
The Soar Educators Program exists to restore the deeper purpose of education. We equip teachers to become intentional mentors, ethical leaders, and daily shapers of young lives. By strengthening educators' leadership capacity, emotional intelligence, and mentorship skills, we ensure that youth development continues long after external programs leave schools.
This creates a powerful multiplier effect. When teachers lead with intention, transformation becomes permanent.

Leadership for Economic Dignity and Transformation
Responding to unemployment with skills, purpose, and leadership
Find out moreUganda's youth unemployment crisis is not only an economic challenge. It is a leadership challenge. Young people without meaningful work lose more than income — they lose agency, identity, and the belief that they have something to contribute.
SoarAway responds by equipping young people with the mindset, skills, and confidence to navigate work, create value, and shape opportunity rather than wait for it.
This is leadership applied to livelihood. Dignity through skill. Purpose through work.
Our Partnership
Through our partnership with BrighterMonday and the Mastercard Foundation under the Gen Kazi Program, SoarAway currently coordinates employability and work readiness training across the eight districts of the Bunyoro Subregion.
We have witnessed young people move from discouragement to confidence, and from unemployment to opportunity. We are actively seeking partners to expand this work to more regions.

Female Leaders Conference
Raising courageous girls in a patriarchal world
The Female Leaders Conference is a deliberate response to a deeply patriarchal context. Girls are often taught to shrink their voice, limit their ambition, and doubt their leadership potential. Yet time and again, we have witnessed what happens when young women are given space, mentorship, and leadership tools.
They rise.
This gathering strengthens leadership identity, confidence, and courage among young women. Through honest dialogue, mentorship, and shared stories, participants confront limiting narratives and step fully into leadership.
We have seen girls go on to lead in schools, communities, organisations, and public spaces once they realise leadership is not borrowed. It belongs to them. When girls lead, societies change.

Public Speech, Debate and Poetry
Unleashing African voices to shape the future
Voice is power. We create platforms where young people learn to think clearly, speak boldly, and express truth beautifully.
Through public speaking, debate, and poetry tournaments, students sharpen critical thinking, confidence, persuasion, and creative expression. They learn to articulate ideas, challenge injustice, and engage complex social and national issues with courage and clarity.
These spaces are more than competitions. They are awakenings. We have witnessed young people discover their voice, influence peers, and step into leadership in schools, universities, and public forums. Language shapes reality. We equip young people to shape it wisely.

Change Week
Creative African storytelling for social change
Change Week is a home for creative young leaders.
This immersive experience brings together young people in storytelling, photography, film, fine art, dance, music, and performance to tell African stories and drive social change.
Here, creativity becomes a leadership tool. Art becomes truth-telling. Identity becomes power. We have witnessed young creatives find their voice, heal through expression, and use art to challenge narratives and imagine new possibilities for Africa.
We do not silence imagination. We unleash it for transformation.
Our Partnership
Change Week is organised by Teens For Change (T4C) in partnership with SoarAway. Together we create a space where being African is celebrated, where difficult conversations happen through creative forms, and where young people discover that art is one of the most powerful instruments for social change.

SoarAway Leadership Academy
Mastery in leadership, personal growth, and youth development
The SoarAway Leadership Academy is the distilled expression of our mastery in leadership development, youth coaching, and personal transformation.
Built from years of deep engagement with young people, educators, and institutions, the Academy translates SoarAway's proven methodologies into tailor-made learning journeys for individuals, fresh graduates, universities, youth-serving organisations, and institutions.
This is not generic training. It is formation rooted in African realities and lived experience. The Leadership Academy exists to ensure that wherever young people go — into work, entrepreneurship, civic life, or public leadership — they go as grounded leaders who know who they are, what they stand for, and how to serve with integrity.

Annual Soar Schools Innovation Challenge
From ideas to solutions that matter
The Annual Soar Schools Innovation Challenge turns leadership into action. Each year, student leaders analyse real challenges within their schools and communities, apply systems thinking, and design sustainable solutions that respond to social, environmental, and development needs.
Through this challenge, young people learn that leadership is practical, collaborative, and accountable. We have witnessed students move from complaint to creativity, from ideas to implementation, and from observation to ownership.

Soar Mentorship
Walking with young leaders, not ahead of them
Soar Mentorship provides tailored mentorship and coaching for young leaders navigating responsibility, identity, and purpose.
In partnership with institutions such as the National Youth Parliament Uganda, The Fortress, and Solidarity Education Trust, we walk closely with young people through seasons of leadership, transition, and growth.
We offer guidance, affirmation, and accountability when it matters most. Because leadership is not a moment. It is a journey that must be accompanied.

Emikago
- Community Of Founders
Where SoarAway alumni build what is next
Many of our alumni did not wait to be handed a platform. They built one.
Across Uganda, SoarAway alumni are founding community-based organisations, NGOs, social enterprises, and youth initiatives rooted in the same values that shaped them. Emikago brings them together.
This is a community of young founders who share more than a history. They share a responsibility. Through quarterly gatherings, peer learning, shared resources, and content built for those leading something of their own, Emikago sustains and amplifies what they are already building.
A leader who builds should not build alone. In Emikago, our alumni become a movement.
What Emikago Offers
- Quarterly in-person gatherings for connection, peer learning, and collaboration
- Articles, lessons, and practical content designed specifically for young founders
- Peer accountability and shared problem-solving across sectors
- Access to the Emikago Volunteer and Intern Resource Centre
- A growing network of SoarAway alumni building across Uganda

Emikago Volunteer and Intern Resource Centre
Connecting Young African founders to global capacity
Too many promising African organisations stall not because of vision, but because of capacity.
The Emikago Volunteer and Intern Resource Centre connects young founders in our community to skilled volunteers and interns from across the world — people who bring expertise, energy, and genuine partnership to their organisations.
This is not charity. It is collaboration. International talent meets African purpose, and both are better for it.
Because the next generation of African institutions should not have to build the future under-resourced.
We are on mission...
